They Talk Loud
2026
Acrylic on Canvas with Vinyl on Acrylic
24" x 30" x 2"
This painting captures the quiet tension between creation and critique. Two bold, stylized figures—rendered in vibrant pop-inspired color—stand partially obscured by a chorus of floating commentary. The speech bubbles, soft in tone yet heavy in presence, echo familiar phrases: encouragement, doubt, and vague direction. Together, they form a layered noise that competes with the individuality of the subjects beneath.
The figures themselves are expressive and self-assured, their sharp features and contrasting hair colors suggesting identity, confidence, and creative voice. Yet their visibility is interrupted—fragmented by outside opinions that attempt to shape, guide, and ultimately dilute what is already there.
This work explores how quickly interpretation becomes interference. Before the viewer can fully engage with the image, the language of critique arrives first, framing the experience and influencing perception. The painting asks: can we ever truly see something without being told how to see it?
By blending bold pop aesthetics with intrusive text, the piece reflects on the modern artist’s struggle—not just to create, but to be heard beneath the constant hum of feedback.
