We the People explores the tension between justice, power, and influence in contemporary society. Inspired by the iconic imagery of Lady Justice, the figure lifts her blindfold, choosing to look rather than remain impartial. The scales, traditionally symbols of fairness and balance, are disrupted by the weight of money, raising questions about the role wealth plays in shaping opportunity, access, and outcomes.
Set against a fragmented American flag layered with pieces of the United States Constitution, the painting examines the distance between the principles on which the nation was founded and the realities experienced today. The bold colors and graphic Pop Art aesthetic draw viewers in, while the symbolism encourages reflection on the systems that govern modern life.
Rather than offering answers, We the People invites viewers to consider who benefits, who is overlooked, and how justice is perceived when financial influence enters the equation. The work challenges us to reflect on the meaning of fairness and the ongoing relationship between constitutional ideals, economic power, and the pursuit of justice.
