Echoes of Critique
2026
Acrylic on Canvas with Vinyl on Acrylic
24" x 30" x 2"
This piece explores the tension between originality and perception through the visual language of Pop Art. Borrowing the familiar aesthetic of comic-style imagery, bold color fields, and halftone patterns, the painting intentionally leans into what some might call “generic” to challenge that very idea.
The speech bubbles act as both critique and commentary. Phrases like “It feels derivative” and “There’s no sense of risk” echo the voices that often surround creative work—unsolicited opinions that shape how art is viewed before it is fully experienced. By placing these words directly over the subject, the piece questions how external narratives can overshadow intention.
